Victorian Solar Energy Rebates
The Victorian government offers rebates of up to $1,850 or 50% of the total cost (whichever is lower) for newly installed solar energy systems in residential and rental properties under the Solar Rebate in Victoria.
If you’re looking for an effective way to save on your electricity bills, investing in solar energy is a great option. With Time To Save, you can install a solar panel system for half the price and pay the remaining cost back over four years with an interest-free loan.
This initiative is designed to help Victorians tackle the rising cost of electricity and reduce carbon emissions. Switching to a solar energy system can cut carbon emissions by nearly 4 million tonnes, equivalent to removing 4.6 million cars from the roads! Additionally, it supports the Victoria State government’s target of achieving 40% renewable energy by 2025.
Successful applicants who meet the eligibility criteria can receive up to 50% off their solar panel installation costs, capped at $1,888. For those interested in solar battery storage, you may qualify for up to $4,838 or 50% off. Please note that you can only claim one of the two rebates.

Is Solar a Good Investment?
While the initial expenses may be higher, investing in a solar system can yield significant long-term savings on your electricity bills. Often, these savings can cover the cost of the system within just a few years of installation. Additionally, the current rebates and incentives provided by the state government make solar energy more affordable than ever.
As prices for solar panels and batteries continue to decrease, solar energy could become a viable investment for every household. However, for homes that receive limited sunlight throughout the year, installing a solar system may not be the best choice.
At Lets Go Green, our experienced professionals will conduct a thorough assessment to determine the best solar solution for your specific situation. Rest assured, while solar energy may be an excellent option for many, if our analysis indicates that there are better alternatives available to you, we will work together to achieve the best possible outcome.
Government Subsidies & Rebates
The Solar Homes Program from the Victorian government is an incentive scheme designed to help Victorians save on their energy bills, reduce their climate impact, and contribute to a cleaner, more renewable future.
More than 250,000 Australians have applied for a Solar Victoria rebate. Switching to solar energy can save you over $1,000 annually on electricity bills. The Solar Panel rebate from the VIC government offers rebates of up to $1,400 for existing homes, homes under construction, and rental properties. Additionally, Victorians may also qualify for interest-free loans equivalent to their rebate amount.
Who is Eligible?
As a Victorian householder, you could receive a solar panel (PV) rebate if you meet the following criteria:
- You are the owner-occupier of an existing property or the owner of a home under construction where the system is to be installed.
- The combined household taxable income of all owners is less than $210,000 per year.
- The property is valued at under $3 million, or a home under construction that will be valued at under $3 million at the time of completion.
- The property address has not previously received a solar panel (PV) rebate under the Solar Homes Program.
- The property has not had a solar panel (PV) system installed in the last ten years.
*If you are participating in the Premium Feed-in Tariff scheme, consider whether replacing your existing system before the scheme ends in November 2024 is more beneficial for you.
